Day 2

My plan for today was to get in some cardio and some weight work and then hit the pool.  Well, Did 20 minutes on the elliptical, some resistance work, then the recumbent bike.  The pool had an unscheduled class in it, so that was a no go.  I did spend 10 minutes in the hot tub though.  I was the youngest one in there by 30 years.  LOL.  Tomorrow will be an earlier AM workout.

Day 1 - What are my goals????

This is what I was asked on my health questionnaire before meeting with my trainer.  They gave me 2 lines to answer that.  Really, 2 lines.  I have always stressed to my employees as well as myself that if you have a goal you need to have a plan to reach those goals.  So, I asked for a second sheet of paper.  The trainer looked at me like I was nuts, but if I was going to do this, then I was going all in.

So, here it is....

I changed the "what are your goals" to "why are you here".

First, I need to lose weight.  If I don't, it will kill me.  I love my wife to much for that.  How do I go about this? 1.  Commit 1-2 hours a day for at least 5 days a week.  If that means getting up at 5am on a Saturday, that's what it means.  2.  Document every workout.  Documentation is accountability.  3.  Understand that failures are going to happen.  Have to get back on the horse when they do.

Second - My father is diabetic, and I am heading there.  I don't want that to happen.

Third - I take 3 medications daily.  Losing weight will eliminate them and save me roughly $500/year.

Forth - I hope to motivate my wife to take the same steps.

So, how did today go?  I met with a trainer today.  Due to HBP, cholesterol and asthma issues, they need a medical release from my doctor to actually work with me.  Basically, just gave me an overview of the club, put me through the various stretches on the stretching machine.  He said that once they get the release back from the doc, he can show me how to use the equipment.  I was able to do anything I wanted at my own health risk without him.  I managed 1.5 miles on the elliptical and did some weight training and then a cool down on the indoor track

All in all, a good day 1.  Looking forward to Day 2.

Oh, yeah....257.4  Never want to see that number again.

3rd time a charm? We'll find out.

Well, here I am again.  Treadmill has been a failure, even after install of a TV.  After about 10-15 minutes, I have knee pain and shin pain forcing me to stop and get dejected.  Time after time.  So where do I go from here......

A friend of mine joined a gym this summer and has lost a ton of weight.  Today, I went to the gym to get a tour and some membership info.  After about an hour there, I decided to take the jump.  The gym has 2 full workout areas (1 with just free weights and 1 with machines), a 1/16 mile walking/running track, full cardio area (treadmills, ellipticals, various bikes, steppers, etc), pool, sauna, hot tubs and the winner for me - personal trainers are included.  With his referral, the initiation fee was waived, saved $11/month for signing up immediately and another $100 for paying in full.  I figure, if they are going to lock me into a 12 month contract and bill me anyway, might as well pay up front and save some $$$.

I have my first session with a trainer tomorrow and can't wait.

Gotta get back at it...

A friend made me realize that I haven't been blogging for a while.  So, today is the day I re-energize myself.   Since my last post, there has been a major development in my life.  On January 28, I lost my job.  Tomorrow, I will have my first face to face interview for a new positions.  If this made me realize anything is that I am not good at not being busy.  There are days that I drive my wife into work, just so I have the car and I am not stuck in the house.  I have been scouting out some new walking/running areas.

Yesterday, I set a TV up in my basement so that my treadmill days aren't as boring as they usually are.  Watched the first half of Moneyball, while walking/running today.

Until tomorrow...

A decent day

I had a decent day today.  While there wasn't a workout involved, I parked farther away from my building than usual and walked.  I really wanted to run when I got home, but after my first day on concrete/asphalt yesterday, I was still a little sore.  I had a good WW day.  Got close to all my points.  I had a really motivational meeting with another manager today regarding exercise, dieting and staying on track.  Still hate my job, but.....Applications and resumes going out.

Good Day today

I ate well today.  After breakfast, I went to True Runner to get fitted for running shoes.  Got home, had lunch and then did W2D1.  Since the weather was nice, it was my workout outside.  Man, was it different.  My legs hurt more when I was done, but it felt good.  Since this was the first nice day in a while, everyone was at the park.  It was difficult keeping a pace with all the kids, dogs and strollers, but I made the most of it.  If I only didn't have to go to work tomorrow.

It wasn't a good day, but it was a great day...

Today was an off day for my C25k program.  Didn't do real well on WW either, but I had a great lunch and movie date with my wife.  That outweighs anything else.  We don't see each other as much since we work in different buildings and I am starting to find myself really looking forward to seeing here.  I think I took it for granted when we saw each other all day.

I started this blog to just keep myself focused on exercise and WW, but it seems to have evolved into more or a journal of my day.  If anyone is reading this, I hope you don't mind.  Until tomorrow..

Rest Day

Today was a rest day for the program.  I really wanted to run, but I don't want to over do it.  I did get some walking in during my lunch, and I stayed on plan with WW very well.   Secret seems to be keeping a water bottle with me at work.  Going tomorrow to get my gait and arch monitored and getting fitted for running shoes.  Until tomorrow.

Back at it.

Illness gone.  I was able to get back at it today.  Completed W1D3.  241 calories my body didn't need.  Back on track with Weight Watchers as well.  Lost 6 pounds in my first week.  It felt good to get my legs back under me and get some leg burn.  Until tomorrow.

Another wasted day

Still sick, but tomorrow will be better and be able to get back on track.

Day 6

Still fighting ear, throat, fever, nausea thing.  Not much happened today.

Day 7 = Wasted

Looks like today is going to be a wiped out day.  Got up this morning to sever abdominal pain.  Went to ER.  Looks like only viral and nothing serious on the CT scan.  Still have intermittent pain and a fever.  Oh, well...

Unexpected but expected off day...

Today wasn't supposed to be an off day, but everyone in the house is sick.  That includes me.  I didn't want to push anything with a fever and congestion (considering I am asthmatic).  Didn't eat much today either and what I did, didn't stay down long.  Let's hope this doesn't last long.  Until tomorrow....

Still going.....

Day 4 and still going.  Today was an off day for C25K.  Seems to be something Viral going around the house.  Wife has it, mother-in-law has it.  I feel like I am getting some head congestion, but so far that is it.  Made a decent lunch today of boneless, skinless chix breast, broccoli and red pepper.  Added some low fat/low sodium chicken broth and crushed red pepper.  Was good, but needed something else.  Hoping that whatever is going around avoids me so that I can stay on track with my workouts.  Until tomorrow....

Rough Day

Today was a rough day.  Bad day at work.  Got home late, but was looking forward to the run.  This was my second run.  I bumped the speed up today, but may have gone to far.  While I feel great that I completed the run and I am not feeling any shin pain, my asthma seems to have acted up a bit.  Chest is a little sore, coughing a bit and had to hit my inhaler.  Lesson learned.  Dial it back a bit on the next run.

Day 2 - Recover Day

Today is a recovery day with the C25K program.  I didn't want to take the day off completely and lose momentum, so I did some walking at lunch and a little upper body P90X.  Registered for the Pirates Charity 5K in April to use as a training goal.  WeightWatchers went a little better today.  Need a stop at the store to load up on fruits and veggies..  Until tomorrow....

It begins....

Day 1 - Joined WeightWatchers For Men online.  Began a running program called Couch 2 5k (C25k).  The struggle for me with WW will be to eat enough.  I know, it is ironic for someone that is trying to lose weight, but when I am documenting what I eat, I tend to restrict myself.  This has been my downfall in the past and the reason that I haven't stuck with it.  My overall goal is to lose 30% of my current body weight.  The intermediate goals will be 10 pound increments.  Had my first "run" today.  Consisted of a 5 minute warm up with 8 alternating runs of 1 minutes and walks of 1.5 minutes, ending with a cool down walk of 5 minutes.  Distance today 1.572 miles and and burned 172.6 calories.
